I’m Jo Stuart, self-taught artist and lately novice website creator!
This is me (bottom) with my husband Alex enjoying a rare day out together.
Alex and I watched The Joy of Painting throughout 2020 and I was fascinated with Bob Ross and his ability to paint realistic landscapes so quickly and easily.
Alex thought I should give it a go and so he bought me a Bob Ross Landscape Master Paint set for Christmas that year.
On 29th December 2020 I painted my first ever painting.

Bob made it look so easy……I soon found out it isn’t! The air may have been a bit blue and I got paint on pretty much every surface in my vicinity. But…..I had fun and I really wanted to get better so I tried again….and again….until….
Not the frustration when things go wrong or the clean up after a session (painting with oils is very messy!).
I love the actual act of painting. Creating something from nothing. Even if what I’m painting doesn’t look how I want it to look, it still looks like something!
Every time I paint, I learn something new and love it a bit more.
Painting quietens my thoughts and makes me focus on what’s in front of me. I’ve become far more aware of the beauty in nature and the wonder in the skies above us. Most of all, and more importantly, painting makes me happy.
52arts is a play on the name Stuart and mine and my family’s love of the many different art forms in the world.
I can only display, gift and store so many paintings hence this website being born.
I’m hoping to find new homes for some of my art and use any proceeds to help me afford new supplies.
For now the website is just about my paintings.
In the future, it would be great to have other artists (of all descriptions) display, and hopefully sell, their works of art or craft here. If that sounds interesting, please get in touch as I’d love to chat about it.
I recently completed my first commission piece.
A good friend wanted a Halloween themed painting for his wife (also a good friend) so I tried my hand at painting to order. The brief was a spooky, Halloween theme to include pumpkins.
I started the painting in late September and finished in mid-October. My friends are very happy with the painting.
Painting to a brief is enjoyable and satisfying. I’d like to do more so how about contacting me with your ideas?. You can see the finished product and find out more on the Commissions page.
If you’ve read this far, thank you so much!
Please check out the gallery and shop and get in touch if you want to purchase or commission a painting or chat about 52ARTs.
Hope you enjoy the rest of your day,
Best wishes
Jo
PS I’m learning website development as I go so please forgive any faux pas!
